Detox - Due August 1, 2014
The food of Babylon is laced with pesticides. And we eat it everyday. Toxins have infiltrated our bodies through food, hygiene and cleaning products, pollution, and bad media. We'd rather not know what Miley Cyrus is up to, but some how the information seeps in anyways. We'd rather not grow toxic tomatoes, but our soil has been contaminated. Discuss your experiments with detoxing from the poisons of Empire. Share your recipes for natural deodorant or let us know how you make the most of baking soda and vinegar. Tell us your struggles seeking godly values while living in the belly of the beast.
Meaningful Work - Due November 1, 2014
Whether punching the clock from 9 to 5, working the fields, or volunteering in your neighbourhood – the work we do shapes us. Have you found fulfillment in a meaningful job? Or gained freedom leaving your work behind? How has the economic downturn shaped your view of labour? Share your stories, struggles, disappointments, joys and experiences in the realm of meaningful work, whether it be mending your own clothes, visiting prisoners in jail, or being a cashier at your neighbourhood grocery store.
What a Waste - February 1, 2015
It is no secret that our disposable lifestyles are poisoning our waters, forests, air, and soil. The culture of waste seems both unavoidable and unescapable - but there must be away out. Tell us your experience in the land of excess. Do you have ideas for reducing our impact on nature? Have you experimented (or failed at) living plastic-free or gas-free? What people and philosophies have inspired you to simplify? What have been your adventures in dumpster diving?
Country Mouse, City Mouse - May 1, 2015
The country is escapist. The city is indulgent. We find ourselves trapped between two ideals: shall we serve in the gutter or in the fields? Tell your stories of life in the city - or life in the country. Talk about ways you've tried to (or want to try to) mix the two through urban homesteading, market gardening, or the like. How do you live simply with time and money in the city? How do you stay involved in justice issues in the country? We want to know!
